This charming old property for sale in Umbria is located in a tiny fortified borough near Massa Martena, a few miles south of Todi.

Set in lush countryside, the village has undergone a thorough restoration, which most of the buildings and the entirety of the outer walls have benefited from.

The town was founded in the 12th century by a noble Guelph family, whose crest (a lion between two palms) is still visible on a wall. In 1310 the Ghibellines of Todi were ready to take over the fortress, but gave up after having met with the ambassador of the borough, who asked for a peace treaty. Pope Clement VII was a guest in the town in 1533.

The building for sale is one of the two main towers of the old fortress, attached to the outer walls and close to the church. It lies on four storeys, plus a cellar.

The edifice has been entirely restored (earthquake proof) both on the outside and on the interior, sympathetically preserving its splendid genuine features: cross-vaulted ceilings, stone-exposed walls, loopholes, niches, old inscriptions, arched openings, timber beamed ceilings, terracotta tiled floors. It has all comforts, with brand new utlities and beautiful finishes

The house is accessible from a tiny alley. Up a few steps to a massive wooden door and you enter into a big dining room with fireplace, provided with a fully equipped open kitchen; the remaining part of the mezzanine floor comprises a small lounge and a large bathroom well decorated with travertine tiles and a stone sink.

The night area lies above. On the first floor are two ample bedrooms and a bathroom with shower; on the top floor, within the tower, is a huge bedroom with en-suite bathroom. This room boasts glorious views and a scenic double sloping roof with exposed beams.

Underneath the dining area lies the warm living room, featuring a nice open fireplace and a marvellous cross-vaulted ceiling dating back to the medieval age. The main walls, at this level, have been pierced and treated with liquid cement injections; this has caused some dampness to come out - a temporary factor to be fixed before sale. A living slice of history and ready to move into.
