Guilmi is 80km from Chieti itself. A little town of 520 inhabitants (Guilmesi), it sits 674 metres above sea level. It is located on a hill, Colle San Giovanni, overlooking the Sinello valley, from which the skyline of the village clearly protrudes, with the church of Santa Maria Immacolata. From here it's 33km to the Adriatic coast, 120km to the ski resorts and 95km to the airport.

A legend reports that the ancient Guilmi, then called Tripaldi, was on the two banks of the Sinello river, but the village was destroyed circa 1720 by an invasion of termites. The patron of Guilmi is Saint Nicholas of Bari, celebrated on 4th and 5th May with a procession in traditional costumes where the women carry on their heads the conca, a brass vase filled with traditional foods and sweets, which is sold in order to make offering to the church. Other feasts include St Mary Magdalene on July 21. Sagra della "ventricina" on August 14. The "ventricina" is a typical Salami from Guilmi made with pork and spices.
