Tuscany – fewer house sales in 2009, worse than national average

New figures from ANCE (national association of private construction contractors) show that Tuscany fared worse than most in terms of residential house sales during 2009; 39,755 sales as compared to 45,135 in 2008 and 55,182 in 2007.

The areas of Tuscany saw a fair degree of variation – they all saw falls, some worse than others. Prato (-17.3%) fared worse, with Lucca (-17.2%) close behind. Arezzo (-14.8%), Pistoia (-13.9%) and Pisa (-13.4%) all did less badly, with Grosseto suffering least of all at -4.7%.

Stories like this one in today’s Economist might give those trying to sell some food for thought, maintaining as it does that ‘Houses remain overvalued in many countries where prices are now rising’ – and that includes Italy.
